We're better than this..

For two thousand years The church has stewarded Divine revelation, in Image, Word, and Liturgical form.

Where does it show?

(An Etherchapel provoked musing on the stewardship of ideas and their incarnation in culture)

St. Peter's - megachurches

Scriptorium - disposable missals

Cathedrals - committee-designed cinder block churches

Monasteries - (nothing comparable)

Theology endowed as queen mother of the sciences - the abandonment of theology as a hag and science as a harlot

...
For a while I studied architecture.. One of the initial pushes here at E' sprang from a reflection on how un-inspiring and long term un-important modern creations are.  Allot of Hubris on my part, I know, but the ancients had only the most basic of tools and materials and look at what they attempted and produced..

Etherchapel isn't about architecture directly though.. it's about getting souls to heaven via the God given and human polished tools inside and of Creation.

What St Thomas and some other scholars did with the brilliant but at-the-time suspect pagan philosophy of the ancient greeks, what humble masons and workers did with all the infant techiniques and tools of antiquity in the monasteries is something like what we need to be doing now with what are all merely baubles and "conveniences" today.
